Send the booking form. We suggest spots with good light for your date, from Liberty State Park to Central Park to your own living room. A $100 retainer holds the date once we confirm it.

Why Kahani? Because every family has a story worth keeping.
Kahani is the Hindi, Urdu and Nepali word for story, and that is what a portrait session is to me: one chapter of your family, kept well. I spent my first decade photographing fashion editorials, runway and published work. That training is why the light in a family portrait looks as good as it does in a magazine. But the sessions I love most are the ones where a grandmother is laughing at a grandson who refuses to sit still.
Every family I photograph gets the same approach: unhurried, unposed, and built around what matters to you. I grew up in a South Asian home, so I also know what a Pasni plate should look like in the frame, which side the pallu falls on, and that the whole extended family will arrive forty minutes late and all at once.
None of that fazes me.

What should we wear?
Whatever feels like you. Traditional dress photographs beautifully outdoors, especially jewel tones against greenery. If you mix, keep to one family of colours. You'll get a one-page style guide after booking, and you can bring a second outfit for most sessions.
Can grandparents and cousins join?
Yes. The Family Signature collection covers six people; add more at $25 each. For big groups, Milestone & Ceremony gives us the time for the whole-family portrait and then the smaller combinations.
My toddler will not cooperate. Is that a problem?
Never. We shoot in short bursts, use games instead of "say cheese", and plan for snack breaks. The best photographs of children usually happen in the five minutes you think the session is falling apart.
Do you photograph religious ceremonies and rituals?
Yes, and we'll ask ahead of time which moments matter most, so nothing is missed and nothing is interrupted. First birthdays, baby showers, christenings, pujas at home, Pasni, Annaprashan and Mundan are all regular bookings.
When do we get the photographs, and can we print them?
A sneak peek of a few images arrives within 48 hours, and the full edited gallery in about ten days. You download high-resolution files with a print release, so you can print anywhere or order prints and albums through us.
How does the retainer work?
Once we confirm your date, a $100 retainer holds it and comes off your final balance. The balance is due on the day of the session. The retainer is fully refundable if you cancel at least 7 days before; closer than that, it moves to a new date instead. Weather and illness reschedules are always free. Payment is by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay through a secure Stripe link; we never see your card details.
Do you travel? We're in New York.
Yes. New Jersey and all five boroughs of New York City are home turf, and travel within 30 miles of Edison, NJ is included. Beyond that is $1 per mile. Long Island, Westchester and Philadelphia are regular trips.
